Breaking NDAs, dissecting Rick Astley and buying booze from a robot 🤖.
Welcome to your monthly round-up of the best (and sometimes worst) of human risk...
How do social media algorithms work? I have no idea. But what I do know is that you probably won't have seen all the human risk-related content I've shared. Don't worry; I’ve got you covered. Here's your latest roundup of some of the best of my podcast, social media, and more. Grab a coffee (or something stronger), and let’s get started.
1. Zelda Perkins campaigns to break the systemic abuse of NDAs
Last month, at the European Compliance & Ethics Community (ECEC) conference, I interviewed whistleblower Zelda about her experiences of breaking her non-disclosure agreement (NDA) with Harvey Weinstein and Can't Buy My Silence, her campaign to end the use of NDAs to prevent people from exposing wrongdoing.
In a world where we need people to speak up, she's bravely doing just that.
Hear Zelda's incredible story in our conversation below ⤵️
2. Rick Astley deceives us once again
What can we learn about human risk from classic song lyrics? Find out in my new series Rock & Rules!
🎵 ”You know the rules, and so do I.” WOAHHHH slow down Rick. Do I? Do you?
A song that's become famous for deceiving people also has some interesting Ethics & Compliance lessons here.
And if you can’t get enough, The Saturdays claim they’re doing nothing wrong but I’m not so sure.
3. A lesson from a supermarket checkout
A recent trip to the supermarket left me thinking:
Training shouldn’t turn people into rule-quoting robots.
It should empower them to follow the rules and stay human.

Calling creative minds this Thanksgiving! What ‘new’ festive traditions can I take down in videos?
I’m stepping into the seasonal spirit to film some hot takes on new traditions. But I'd love your ideas.
How can you help?
✨ What festive features drive you mad, make you laugh, or spark interesting thoughts about human behaviour?
✨ Are there seasonal rituals that scream ethics or compliance chaos about to be unleashed?
Drop your suggestions in the comments or DM me.
I’d love to feature your ideas — and of course, I’ll give credit where it’s due! 🎁
That’s it for November, but in the meantime why not send me a baffling or brilliant example of Compliance in the Wild? Drop me an email at christian@human-risk.com and you might get a shout out on the CITW LinkedIn feed.

As far as the festive season goes, I think this whole business of who’s been naughty or nice is an ethics and compliance minefield. I’m not aware of any guidance and I’ve certainly had no training. Where are the criteria and the adjudication system, and is there a mechanism for appealing a decision? I won’t even get *started* on the risks of using AI to speed up some of the process.
